Miss Diane, a woman who is very much a mother in the community surrounding Global Presence Center, has hosted the Simpson Street Neighborhood Reunion every year for the past 6 years. A couple months ago she heard about the Free Legal Clinic at GPC and wanted to check it out as a potential resource for people in the community. She was so blessed by what she found she began sharing about the annual reunion she’d be putting on. Global Presence jumped right in, volunteering and helping to promote the event. Shalom Ministries in Milwaukee brought a team of evangelistic lovers of Jesus who provided food, music, raffle prizes, face painting and more.
People of all ages and backgrounds came to the reunion: current and former residents of the neighborhood, long-time friends, bikers, teens and adults. Both kids and adults danced and flagged, filling the park with vibrant colors. Live music filled the air: worship, hip-hop and more worship. 200+ balloon animals and swords were given out. There’s a moment like no other the instant a child hears the balloon master say, “Here you go!” Pure delight fills the child’s face as the once-formless balloon now holds a personality and purpose. We saw this joy again and again in special moments throughout the day.
At the end of the night the Gospel was presented from the stage. Several adults came forward to give their lives to Jesus! A little girl, about 10 years old, watched them go up and asked what it was for. She had heard the Salvation message and really wanted Jesus, but wasn’t sure she wanted to stand up in front of people. When a Global Presence volunteer encouraged her she stood up bravely to go. Immediately there was a row of about 7 more kids next to her who wanted Jesus to come into their lives too! Right then and there these kids prayed and received Salvation.
We are so excited for what God is doing in this community! Let it continue!
